The handmade production
The handmade production
In Petroio there are two traditional ways to work earthenware : potter’s wheel processing and the hand mould.
During the handmade processing the crafsman:
- spreads the argil mixture all over a plaster model and spreads it evenly to give it the right thickness;
- must be careful to jam the thickest parts and mould’s joints otherwise vases will have some imperfections (in fact, as we say usually, these parts must not be “solle” or “grinze”).
After that,
- the vase is taken out of the mould;
- mould’s joints and blemishes are removed with the help of a plastic stick;
- the vase surface is smoothed and, ultimately, it is completed with a sponge bath to obtain a rustic manufacture.
